Existence is infinite and limitless. Existence is innumerable units of nature saturated in all pervasive Space. Nature and Space are two distinct classes of existence. Classification is necessary for systematic study of nature. Space doesn't require further classification - as it is only one of its kind. Classification or categorization is needed for understanding the infinite units of nature. This classification is based on identification of 'similarity'. This identification of 'similarity' has to be on the basis of understanding of existence - otherwise study will not achieve realization. The purpose of study is realization.
Madhyasth Darshan classifies nature into four orders - material order, pranic order, animal order and knowledge order. This classification is based on identification of similarity in religion (dharma). All material order units have the religion of "to exist". All pranic order units of nature have the religion of "to grow" along with to exist. All animal order units of nature have the religion of "to want living" along with to grow and to exist. All knowledge order (humankind) units of nature have the religion of "happiness" along with to want living and to grow and exist. This classification is not based on similarity in form, characteristics and innate-nature. Within an order there can be sub-classes based on these dimensions.
Religion based classification of nature has led to identification of human being as a unit of knowledge order distinct from animals. Happiness is the religion of all human beings, while religion of animals is "to want living". All animals live while conforming to the design of their species, while human beings live out their understanding. This is a crucial difference between animals and human beings - which requires human beings to be in a different class from animals.
The demarcation of animal order and pranic order is based on the presence or absence of jeevan. This demarcation is not possible without the understanding of jeevan. The distinction of "life" and "living" is possible only from understanding of jeevan. Life is merely from breathing and self-replication of body. While living involves combined expression of body and jeevan. The demarcation of pranic order and animal order is not possible on the basis of their characteristics alone.
Madhyasth Darshan has made first level classification of nature based on religion, which makes it fundamentally different from the approach of classification of nature used in prevalent Science. Madhyasth Darshan defines religion and proposes that every unit of nature has its religion, which is its defining aspect from which it cannot be separated. Religion of all human beings is one - i.e. happiness. All actions of every human being are in expectation of happiness. Human beings are further classified into four levels of consciousness - animal consciousness (pashu manav, rakshas manav), human consciousness (manav), godly consciousness (dev manav) and divine consciousness (divya manav). Human beings are not classified based on their skin colour, bodily structure etc. These are racial aspects. Human race is one. Human being is a combined expression of body and jeevan. Jeevan expresses animal consciousness through human body in the absence of understanding of coexistence, and it expresses human consciousness, godly consciousness and divine consciousness through human body with understanding of coexistence.
